SJR | Week 522: Saskatchewan Waterfowl Family Ties

On this week’s show, Bret Amundson and Dan Amundson are up in Saskatchewan waterfowl hunting with our family. They’re joined by Ron Amundson, Wade Amundson and Mitch  Hunt. They talk about their week chasing geese around. Ron Amundson talks about the family history the Amundsons have in Saskatchewan, and how he had the best duck hunt of his life here in 1956. The guys talk about how they almost recreated that hunt this week. Mitch Hunt talks about shooting cranes and the Ultimate Waterfowl Challenge, and Wade Amundson talks about the hunting and how the trip got off to a rocky start.

Then the guys are joined by Joe Henry from Lake of the Woods Tourism. Joe was recently part of a big veterans event called Pay It Forward. He talks about how the event went this year and why it’s so important. He also mentions how events like these are incredibly helpful for veterans to get the help they need. Todd Vanlangen was the guest speaker at this year’s event, and Joe got to fish with him for a few days. Joe tells us how that went and how they caught walleyes.

Erik Osberg hops on the show to give us an Otter Tail Lakes Country Report. He tells us how the fall colors are progressing, how musky fishing has been, and why people need to plan a trip to Otter Tail Lakes Country this fall. He shares some places to go check out fall scenery, and he even claims they’re as good, if not better, than the North Shore. Erik tells us what he caught his musky on, and what superstition they used to get a bite.
