bristol-bay-mining

It’s the 10th Anniversary of Sporting Journal Radio! Hard to believe we’ve been on the air this long. Thanks for all of your support On this week’s podcast, Bret Amundson and Dan Amundson talk about the importance of protecting the lakes and rivers we love to visit, fish and play in. One certain project comes to mind, and that’s the Bristol Bay mining project. https://stoppebbleminenow.org/comment/

Scott Hed from Businesses For Bristol Bay joins the show to talk about a big proposed mining project near the precious Bristol Bay region in Alaska. Scott lays out what the project is, why it’s a bad idea for the community and what we can do to help stop the project. He also talks about why Bristol Bay is such a neat area and needs to be protected, especially for the sake of the salmon fishing.

Then Joe Henry from Lake of the Woods Tourism is back, but he brought a few friends along. Robyn Dwight from the Upper Red Lake Area Association and Ann Brucciani Lyon from the Mille Lacs Area Community Foundation joined Joe as they talk about the expansion of the Keep It Clean initiative to Red Lake and Mille Lacs. The three discuss the importance of keeping our lakes clean while ice fishing, what ice anglers can do to reduce litter, and what will happen if anglers don’t clean their trash off the ice.

Garett Svir also joins the show after a day on the water and gives us a complete rundown on how he’s catching crappies and bluegills in Otter Tail Lakes Country right now. He tells us what lures he’s using, where he’s looking for fish and how he’s presenting those lures to the panfish once he finds ’em.
