SJR | Week 515: Filming a Fishing TV Show

On this week’s show, we finish up our discussion with the New Fly Fisher TV show crew. We spoke with host Jenna Mckeown last week, and this week we talk with videographer Ryan Pizzacalla and editor Caitlyn Martel about filming a fishing TV show. The two tell us about their role with the TV show and explain how their time at Tazin Lake Lodge compare to some of the other destinations they’ve been. Ryan has filmed fishing shows all over, including places like the Bahamas in addition to other locations in the United States and nearly every province in Canada. This turned out to be Caitlyn’s first fishing trip, and it sounds like it was a good one to be on. She explains why.

Joe Henry also joins the show. He actually just got done filming a fishing TV show with Greg Jones of Midwest Outdoors, but he tells us how the bite was and what they were doing to find fish. He also explains why Lake of the Woods is such a good lake to fish in the late summer when other lakes in Minnesota are struggling to produce walleyes. He also explains how it might be easier to get a reservation at your favorite resort right now compared to other years.

Randin Olson calls in from Otter Tail Lakes Country to give us some tips on finding walleyes and crappies in other parts of Minnesota. He tells us how he manages to catch fish in the middle of a bug hatch, and spills his secrets on mid-summer crappies.
