On this week’s podcast, Bret Amundson and Dan Amundson are broadcasting from Tazin Lake Lodge! They sit down with owners Trevor Montgomery and Barry Prall to find out how the start of the fishing season has gone at Tazin. They talk about opening up the fishing lodge and the first few guests that have visited, including the New Fly Fisher Crew. They also talk about how fishing is and some techniques they use to catch bigger fish. Bret and Dan also talk about the Lake Trout they’ve caught since getting to Tazin Lake Lodge.

First, we check in with Joe Henry and talk about the Northwest Angle at Lake of the Woods. Joe tells us everything we need to know about getting to the Northwest Angle and staying at a fishing lodge up there, and more specifically how to fly to the Northwest Angle. He also shares why everyone should plan a fishing trip to that part of Lake of the Woods and gives us a fishing report.

Randin Olson shows us exactly what walleyes look like on side scan, and he tells us how to use your electronics more efficiently to catch more fish. He breaks down when side scan is best and when your 2D traditional sonar is better, and his strategy for what to do once he finds the fish on the graph. Randin also tells us his favorite way to target crappies now, and he says it’s the easiest fishing an angler can do.
