SJRadio On Demand: GPS Tracker Mallard Study in Minnesota

Bret Amundson with a hen mallard outfitted with a “backpack” or gps tracking unit.

Bruce Davis is a waterfowl research scientist with the MN DNR. Chances are, if you’ve ever reported a duck or goose band in Minnesota, you might have seen his name associated with it. For the last couple of years, he’s been spearheading a research study that is uncovering large amounts of data that was previously unknown. How much do mallards move around during the day. How far do they go. When they migrate out of Minnesota, how far do they travel? Bruce answers these questions and more on this week’s show. Tony Crotty talks bird migrations and Joe Henry checks in from Lake of the Woods.
