Cummings Narrowly Wins Top Prize at Derby
The 5th Annual Poles and Holes Fishing Derby was won by Dan Cummings from Perham, MN on February 7th on Little Detroit Lake in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. With nearly one thousand anglers competing, Cummings’ 3.34 pound Northern narrowly edged Lee Metzger’s 2nd place finishing, 3.33 pound Northern.
Cummings’ prize of $10,000 was just part of a total prize package that exceeded $35,000 in value. Other notable prize winners were Darrin Oelfke of Vergas, MN who received an Ice Castle Fish House based on his 5th place finish.
The derby, sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Breakfast Rotary Club, is quickly becoming a popular stop on the circuit of ice fishing derbies in the region and was part of the opening weekend of Polar Fest in Detroit Lakes. Participants came from throughout Minnesota, South Dakota and North Dakota to participate.
In a separate raffle, the top prize of a 2015 Polaris 570 Four Wheeler went to Dustin Gigstead of Detroit Lakes.
