Youth Waterfowl Day is Saturday

Youth ages 15 and younger can go waterfowl hunting this Saturday, Sept. 13, on Youth Waterfowl Day, when accompanied by an adult who isn’t hunting that day.

“Youth Waterfowl Day gives young people the chance to hunt with an adult who can devote their whole attention to making sure the youth have a positive hunting experience,” said Mike Kurre, mentoring program coordinator with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The adult must be age 18 and older, and does not need a license. Youth may take ducks, Canada geese, mergansers, coots and moorhens from one-half hour before sunrise to 4 p.m. Motorized decoy restrictions are in effect.

Bag limits are the same as the regular duck season. Five Canada geese may be taken statewide. Hunters ages 13 to 15 must have a firearms safety certificate or apprentice hunter validation in their possession. All other migratory bird hunting regulations apply.
