There are a number of new fishing tournaments taking place this winter, including a huge one on Lac qui Parle Lake. $75,000 in prizes, including a $10,000 cash first prize will be given away at the 1st Annual Ice Castle Classic, Saturday February 8th.
Ice Castle Fish Houses are manufactured nearby in Montevideo and they’ve decided to host their own tournament. To kick it off, they’ve loaded up on huge prizes including 3 different Ice Castles. All the proceeds will be given to local charities as well.
The tournament structure is very similar to other tournaments. Predrilled holes will be purchased with a tournament ticket. At 8:00 am on February 8th, contestants can choose their hole. If you’re feeling lucky you can buy up to two holes and fish them both. Fishing will take place from 11am – 2pm with the largest 50 fish taking the prizes. It’s any species by weight.
If you haven’t been out in the Montevideo area before, this might be a great opportunity to check it out and fish Lac qui Parle. While it’s known more for goose hunting, the fishing should not be overlooked. Big crappies, healthy walleyes, perch and bluegills are all targeted year round, while spearing for northern pike is also very popular.
The tournament will be hosted out of the Watson Hunting Camp, which has rv hook ups if you want to bring your camper or Ice Castle down and stay right there.
