Quick update on my progress over in the land of cheese, beer and big bucks. We made it out this weekend, and it was a rather unusually slow weekend. I was able to see the most deer but activity was way down.
Sunday morning around 9am I heard a the telltale sign of deer crunching leaves and as I look over my shoulder one was trotting towards me, head down around sixty yards. I grabbed my bow as fast as I could and got ready, at this point he was only 10 yards away when he stopped behind a tree. I started to draw back while he took a step forward and looked dead at me, right in the middle of my draw cycle. Super bummer! The whole encounter lasted for 15 seconds.
He was a ultra wide 10 pointer, I estimated pushing mid 150s. I’m kicking myself with the what-ifs but in the end, there is nothing I can do. A doe and another 2 1/2 year old 8ptr and that was all she wrote for sunday morning. It’s going to be a couple weeks before I can get back out to Wisconsin, but I am chomping at the bit to get into some rutting action!
Hope everybody’s doing well and be sure to send us your deer pictures to Bret@mnsportingjournal.com so we can proudly display them on our 2013 buck board!
