A tragic incident is being reported by the Duluth News Tribune today.  Gunflint Lodge fishing guide Dennis Todd was involved in a possibly fatal boating accident.  A rescue effort has turned into a recovery effort.

Todd guided my cousins, Chad and Scott Amundson on a trip up to Saganaga Lake earlier this year. I remember hearing about it because at one time, Todd rode a moose.  You heard that correctly, Dennis Todd once rode a moose.  Below is the video courtesy of KARE 11.

Chad says, “He had a good sense of humor and he seemed to know everyone on the Gunflint Trail and Saganaga.  The day we were with him, we sat in the pouring rain out in the boat, (and) he put us on a lot of fish.”

Todd was 59 years old.
